How online classes can patch the holes in a student's academic progress

Individually tailoring instructional programs has long been known to be the most effective teaching method. Unfortunately, traditional public schooling suffers from an inherent inability to effectively teach students at their own level and pace. Teachers try, but it’s just not possible, given the constraints of daily class schedules and the need to follow one established lesson plan for the entire class. Online high school, on the other hand, is specifically designed for individual instruction.

All of us struggle with some subjects more than others, and some students simply need more time to fully assimilate facts and grasp concepts. If you get stuck on one or two key points, you start to fall behind. If the class moves too far forward and you can’t keep up, you can fail the class. That leaves a hole in your academic progress.

Sterling Academy’s Credit Recovery program can patch those holes.

Don’t give up! Our online high school is specifically designed for individual instruction, so it is an ideal environment in which to earn the credit you were not able to earn at your local school. This process is called credit recovery.

You don’t even have to start from scratch. For credit recovery, you enroll for a shortened version of the course you didn’t pass. You take a pre-test before each unit, and if you pass the pre-test you can skip that unit. That means you only have to “re-study” the material you weren’t able to easily grasp the first time, rather than wasting time on material you already understand.

Because you’re working online, you can easily fit your credit recovery course work into the rest of your school and personal schedule. And you can get as much help as you need, one-on-one, from your online teacher. You will pass the course, and you can move on.

We offer 55 credit recovery courses, in a wide variety of subjects including geometry, psychology and biology. And because Sterling Academy is regionally accredited by AdvancED/SACS, you can transfer the credits you earn through our credit recovery program to your regular school.

No holes in an online high school education.

Online study takes peer pressure and other negative distractions out of the education equation, so it’s a more comfortable environment for many students. There is no daily class schedule. You can study at the time and place you choose, and work at your own pace. You can whip through material that comes to you easily and spend as long as you want on more difficult concepts.

If you fall behind in a traditional classroom setting, you not only lose out on subject matter learning, you can also fail to learn essential life skills such as self-motivation, critical thinking and effective study habits. When you study online, you automatically pick up and sharpen these skills – along with more advanced technology expertise – as part of your personal education process.

Sadly, most public schools simply do not have the resources to implement individualized education. Aside from scheduling pressures, they don’t have the classroom space or teachers, nor do they have the money to acquire them.

If you feel like you’re falling through the cracks because you have failed a course at your high school, Sterling Academy’s credit recovery program will help you successfully earn the credits you need to get back on track.
