Virtual High School Social Studies Curriculum
Social Studies courses with Sterling Academy are focused on research and
writing. Each topic in these online courses features a video lecture that is supplemented with reading assignments from outside websites. This allows students to investigate various events through links on the websites and beyond.
Each lesson also includes writing exercises through which the students can give their perspectives and support their positions with evidence they have used from the assigned reading or individual investigations. The Social Studies teachers at Sterling attempt, in every way, to encourage "out of the box" thinking by linking events from the past to current events.
Sterling Academy Social Studies teachers look to each assignment as an opportunity for students to develop not only their thinking skills, but talents that they can use in finding their place in a rapidly changing world.
Here's a short demonstration video from one of our social studies courses:

Students who like to be challenged may take the Honors versions of the United States Government and Economics with Finanical Literacy courses.
In addition to the above required courses, we offer the following elective courses in the Social Sciences:
Sterling Academy also offers Social Studies courses for grades 6-8.
