Sterling Academy is pleased to offer NCAA-approved courses options through our 9-12 accredited Online Academy. Students enrolled in Sterling Academy courses have access to frequent instructor-initiated interaction throughout the course. Teachers offer group synchronous sessions to review specific content areas. Additionally, one-on-one sessions (conducted by phone, video chat, text chat, or email) occur as-needed for individual tutoring and remediation. Between asynchronous and synchronous feedback and interaction, students will connect with their teacher daily. Sterling Academy’s NCAA-approval can be viewed on the NCAA High School Portal by accessing the link below and using the school’s six-digit code 102295:
--Students are required to attend class for a minimum of 14 weeks weeks and a maximum of 18 weeks per

--Enrolled students must add Sterling Academy to their schools list in their NCAA high school portal.
--The approved course lists are only for initial eligibility and as the NCAA’s disclaimer below reads, certification is case-specific for all students.
The list of NCAA courses, and courses contained within, are maintained as a guide for prospective student athletes
seeking NCAA initial-eligibility. The list of approved courses does not, nor is intended to, signify accreditation,
certification, approval or endorsement of any high school or specific courses by the NCAA or the NCAA Eligibility Center and is subject to change at any time and without notice. Core course information included on this Web site is provided for guidance purposes only and should not be solely relied on as an indication of NCAA initial-eligibility. Certification of a prospective student- athlete is case-specific, and the Eligibility Center has the authority to determine in its sole discretion whether the prospective student-athlete has met all criteria.
While there are slightly different eligibility requirements for NCAA D1 and D2, in 98 percent of the cases, if you are eligible at the D1 level, you will also be eligible at the D2 level. It is best to schedule your courses to meet the D1 requirements so you can be assured of being eligible at both division levels.
SAMPLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE FOR NCAA ELIGIBILITY
Below is a sample high school course schedule that would ensure a student-athlete was on track to meet all of the DI and DII core course requirements. These are generic course names, and they may or may not match up with the list of courses for your high school. It is important you sit down with your high school counselor and put together a similar plan with the courses that are approved for your high school.
To meet NCAA eligibility requirements to compete at the college level, athletes much complete 16 core courses (core classes) identified by the NCAA. These courses include: English 1-4, American literature, Creative Writing, Algebra 1-3, Geometry, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, American History, Civics, Government, Comparative Religion and Spanish 1-4.
The core classes required in college are English, Math, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Science.
Most high schools in the U.S. have a list of approved core courses with the NCAA. This list allows the NCAA to quickly evaluate an athlete’s eligibility by simply checking that the class is on the approved list and seeing what the student-athlete’s grade was in the course. Use the NCAA website to look up your high school’s NCAA-approved courses. Meet with your counselor and make sure the course plan you have matches up with the approved courses.
If you need to check your core course GPA and make sure you are on track to meet the eligibility requirements, you will need the core course worksheet. With this worksheet, you will fill in the classes you have completed (make sure they are on the approved list for your high school) and the grade you received in the class. You can then total up the credits and grade to estimate your core course GPA and know if you are on track.
As a full-time student at Sterling Academy working to earn your high school diploma, you can take full advantage of our vast array of electives. This is a significant difference compared to most traditional schools, where electives options are usually very limited.
We welcome part-time students, which allows you to take elective courses that your school does not offer. Classes are 100% online for Middle and High School, so you can study whenever you want, from anywhere with an internet connection. You may also enroll and begin your studies at any time. Because we are a regionally accredited school, you can easily transfer the credits you earn back to your high school.
