Selecting a college is a highly individual process. There are many factors to consider, only you can know which of those factors are most meaningful to you. Start by creating a matrix-type chart so you can more easily compare schools as you do your research – there are so many variables you will never be able to keep everything in your head while you sort through it. Do not be afraid to ask lots of questions.
Every year, the National Association for College Admission Counseling conducts a “State of College Admissions” survey. And every year, respondents say the most influential factor in admissions decisions is a high school student’s achievement in their college prep courses.
Applying to college is not simply a matter of finding the right academic match. Admissions directors are looking for well-rounded students. They want to know if you have a range of interests and if you seem likely to be a good personal fit within their college’s particular environment.
Getting into the college of your choice is a wonderful and exciting achievement for any high school student. But succeeding in college requires you to take complete responsibility for your own learning. Students that attend online high school gain significant college prep advantages, because independent learning skills are already ingrained by the time they arrive at college.
